I noticed this giant brown thing sticking out of the ground after I saw La Grande Arche, which is basically a giant cube made of concrete and glass. When I saw this brown thing at first I thought it was a giant penis sticking out of the ground...not gonna lie. But,
upon closer inspection, I figured out that it was a thumb. I really don't know why there was a giant brown thumb sticking out of the ground but I went with it. I figured this is the mordern part of Paris so who says they can't have a giant thumb/penis sticking out of the ground? The buildings in La Defense are so different from what you normally see in Paris. It was like being Chicago. I climbed these stairs that lead up to the cube and looked around there for a while. It was really expensive to ride the glass elevator to the top so I passed. I sat on the stairs for a while just people watching and enjoying the sun. This guy came up to me and asked me if he could sit down and I said sure. There were like a million other spots on the stairs so why he wanted to sit next to me I have no idea. Probably because I was alone. We were speaking in French and I was having a hard time understanding him, mostly because I had one ear bud in because I really didn't want to talk to him, and partly because he was mumbeling and talking really fast. He asked where I was from and what I was doing here, the usual creeper questions. He asked me something and I told him that I didn't understand him and he was like offended or something. Maybe if he wasn't mumbeling I could understand what he was saying. Better yet, if he would just take the hint that I didn't want to talk to him that would've been better. He asked what my name was and he said that his name was Gui, then he goes, "that's Guy in English" I was like well no shit...I got tired of talking to him at that point so I told him I was meeting a friend and left...total lie. I don't get why only French black men creep on me. Seriously, it's never a white guy. Not that I have a problem with black men, I just don't get it.
I walked further down La Defense and hoped my creeper Gui wasn't following me, because that's happened to me before. Th
ere was a cool looking sculpture so I went and checked that out. I'm not really sure what it was but it was interesting. I looked to my left and saw a sculpture that looked a lot like the Flamingo scuplture by Alexander Calder in Chicago. I thought for a minute that I was a copy, but it turns out it is called L'araignee Rouge (The Red Spider) by Clader. Either way, it was really awesome looking and reminded me of home. I walked back to the metro station because I was really cold despite the sun and got a delish drink from McCafe and got back on the metro.
Happy Mardi Gras by the way. I totally forgot that was today until Renee left me a note saying that we were having crepes tonight because of it. Needless to say it was a delish dinner complete with lots of sugar and ice cream and hard apple cider, which I LOVE! I won't be going to bed for a while because of all the sugar. I'm really annoyed with the Olympics coverage here. I understand that this is France and they want to see their athletes, but they showed 15 minutes of the first period of the USA vs Switzerland hockey game and they haven't gotten back to it. I guess I'll have to hope that it will be online tomorrow. I wanted to watch the men's snowboard cross finals but they only had the qualifying rounds on the internet today. I believe the half pipe competition starts tonight but I'd rather wait to watch it online so I can see all of it and it'll be in English. Well, my episode of Dexter is done loading, so I'm going to watch that.
A bientot!
